HOPE Can Help You Get the Education You Want.
HOPE - Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally- is Georgia's uniq ue scholarship program that rewards students' hard work with financial assistance in degree, diploma , and certificate programs at an y eligible Georgia public or private college, university, or public technical college . Since the program began in 1993, nearly 800 ,000 Georgians have received more than $2.3 billion through the HOPE Scholarship Program, which is funded by the G eorgia Lottery for Education.
You can benefit from HOPE in several ways . If you wish to enroll in a degree program at a Georgia public college, university, or technica l college, you may be eligible for fina ncial assistance covering tuition, HOPEapproved mand atory fees, and a book allowa nce.
If you wish to enro ll in a G eorgia private college, you may be eligible for a $3,000 an nua l scho larship for fulltime study or $1,500 for half-tim e study (6-11 hours). Yo u also may receive finan cial assis tance for nondegree programs at any Georgia publ ic college or technical college. Other HOPE assistance is available for GED recip ients .

, HOPE for Students Seeking a Degree at a Georgia Public College, University, or Technical College.
If you wish to enroll in a degree program as an entering freshma n at a Georgia public college, un iversity, or techn ical college, you mu st have the follow ing qualificatio ns:
Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen for Title IV fu nds .
M eet HOPE 's G eorgia residency requirements. M eet the Selective Service registration require-
ment s.
Be a 1993 or lat er grad uate of an eligible high school.
Earn a "B" average in the core curriculum (a 3.0 cumulativegradepoint average on a 4.0 scale, or 80 numericgrade average, meeting the college preparatory
track requirements; if you are in the career/ technical
curriculum track, you must have a 3.2 cumulative gradepoint average on a 4.0 scale, or 85 numericgrade

You may receive first-year HOPE assistance for the first 30 semester or 4S quarter hours attempted at any Georgia public college or university. However, you must have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 at the end of Spring term in order to continue your eligibility, unl ess you were enro lled for less than 12 hours for eac h term prior to and including Spring term. If you are enro lled for less than 12 hours for each of your first three terms , you must have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 at the end of the thi rd term.
The award includes tuitio n, HOPE-approved mandatory fees, and a book allowance of up to $300 per academic year. Full-time enrollment is not required .
You may renew the scholarship for your sophomore, junior, and sen ior years . To do so, you must:
Maintain a 3.0 cumu lative grade point average for all coursework attempted (not just coursework completed) at each HOPE eligibility checkpo int.
Reapply for the scho larship by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the e-HOPE app lication at www.gsfc.org/ehope.
Be making satisfactory academic progress.
College hours and grades attempted prior to high schoo l graduation are not used in calculating your total
attempted hours and cumulative grade point average to renew HOPE. However, credit hours for which you received payment from the HOPE Gra nt and the Accel Program will be included in the ma xim um number of hours you can receive the HO PE Scholarship.
Two Opportunities for Students to Regain HOPE: The HOPE Scholarship is a reward for scholastic achievement and an incentive to continue working hard in school. If, after attempting 30 semester or 45 quarter hours , or at the end of Spring term , or at the end of the first three enrolled terms as a less-than-full-time student, you fall below a 3.0 cum ulative grade point average , you ma y continue your college studies at your own expense. If you then earn a 3.0 cumulative grad e point average at the compl etion of your sophomore year (60 semesteror 90quarterhoursattempted) or your junior year (90 semester or 135quarter hoursattempted), you may reenter the HOPE Scho larship Program . HOPE for Public College Students Who Were Ineligible as Entering Freshmen: If you graduated from high school before the HOPE program began in 1993, or if you were not academically eligible imm ediately after high school graduation, you may be eligible for a HOPE Scholarship after attempting 30,60, or 90 semester hours or 45,90, or 135 quarter hours of study if you have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average .

If you are a non -trad ition al stude nt or were not aca de mically eligible imme diately after high schoo l graduatio n, you may be eligible for a HOPE Scholarship after atte mpting 30 semester (45 quarter) hours , 60 semester (90 quarter)hours, or 90 semester (135 quarter) hours of study if you have earned a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at that time .
~ HOPE for Students Seeking a ,.. Technical Certificate or Diploma at
a Georgia Public Technical College or Public College or University.
Georgia residents who are attending a Georgia public technica l college or public college or un iversity to earn a certificate or diploma are eligible for HOPE assistance regardless of high schoo l graduation dates or gra de point averages. The HOPE Grant covers tuition , HOPEapprove d mand atory fees, and a book allowa nce of up to $300 per academic year. Full-time enro llme nt is not requi red, but you must be making satisfactory academic progress to maintain eligibility. You may receive the HOPE Grant for up to 95 quarter hours or 63 semester hours of study. NOTE: Certificateprograms offired throughthe Continuing Education Department do not quallfyfor HOPE assistance.
~ HOPE for GED Recipients at a ,.. Georgia Postsecondary Institution.
Lega l reside nts of Georgia who earned a General Education Development (high school equivalency) diplom a awa rded by th e Georgia De partme nt of Technical and Adult Education after June 30, 1993 may receive a one-time $500 HOP E award . This award can be used toward tuition, books, and other educational costs at an eligible public technical college or public or private college or university in a degree, diploma , or certificate program. Fu ll-time enro llment is not required . Students must use their HOPE eligibility within 24 months of the date of the GED dip loma . Military person nel have 52 mon ths to exercise eligibility . In addition to the $500 award , G ED recipients may qualify for assistance thro ugh other HOPE components.
HOPE Scholarship Award Limits.
Regardless of the funding source , once a degreeseeking student has attempted 127 semester (190 quarter) hours of degree cred it, or has received HOPE Scho larship plus HOPE Gra nt plus Accel Progra m pay ment for 127 semester (190 quarter) hour s, or has earned a baccalaur eate (four-year) degree, the stude nt is no longer eligible for the HOPE Scholarship.
How to Apply for HOPE.
Just follow these steps:
Students planning to attend a public college, university, or technical college must complete the Free App lication for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or e-HOPE (electronic application). You can access e-HOPE at www.gsfc.org/ehope.
Some colleges and techn ical colleges also require the student to complete the schoo l's financial aid application. Contact the financia l aid office at the school you plan to attend .
Students planning to attend an eligible private college or university must complete the e-HOPEI e-TEG (electronic appl ication). You can access e-HOPE/e-TEG at www.gsfc.org/ehope.
The deadline to app ly for HOPE for the 2004-2005 award year (Sum mer Term 2004 throug h Spring Term 2005) is the end of Spring Term 2005. Yo u must com plete the app licatio n process th rough the institution's financia l aid office before the end of Spring Term 2005 or by any earlier date established by the postsecondary institution .
