Attention! Transporters of flammable gasoline, fuel oil, and liquefied petroleum gas (propane)

Attention!
Transporters of:
Flammable Gasoline, Fuel Oil, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Propane)
According to Federal and State hazardous material safety regulations, DOT specification cargo tanks must be reinspected as required by qualified personnel adhering to Title 49, Part 180, Code of Federal Regulations. The applicable tests:
Must be marked on the tank shell near the specification plate or anywhere on the fronthead;
The markings must be durable, legible, and in English;
The markings must contain the type of test, as well as the month and year the tests were performed;
The markings must be in letters and numbers at least 32mm (1.25 inches) high.
MC 305, MC 306, and DOT specification cargo tanks transporting flammable petroleumdistillate fuels, such as gasoline and fuel oil, must complete the following tests at the specified intervals:
External Visual (V): Annually
Leakage Test (K) or K-EPA27: Annually
Internal Visual (I): Every 5 years
Pressure Retest (P): Every 5 years
MC 330, MC 331, specification cargo tanks and ASME Non-specification cargo tanks transporting flammable Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Propane) must complete the following tests at the specified intervals:
External Visual (V): Annually Internal Visual (I): Every 5 years if non-corrosive; Annually if corrosive Leakage Test (K): Annually Pressure Retest (P): Every 5 years Thickness Test (T): Every 2 years if corrosive

Non-specification cargo tanks* used to transport flammable liquid petroleum products such as gasoline and aviation fuel, must be tested the same as an MC 306 before July 1,2000:

External Visual (V): Annually

Leakage Test (K): Annually

Internal Visual (I): Every 5 years

Pressure test (P): Every 5 years

*Non-specification tanks may only be used in one state (intrastate commerce), and must have been in use in that state on or before July 1, 1998. They must have a capacity of less than 3,500 gallons.

Additionally, if a cargo tank receives damage from an accident or other event, retesting maybe required before its specified inspection date to re-confirm package integrity and continued compliance with the hazardous material safety regulations.

In addition to the aforementioned cargo tank retesting requirements, cargo tanks must complete annual period inspections in accordance with Title 49, CFR, Part 396.17.

NOTE: For safety's sake, choose a reputable testing facility.
