The Facilities Division is responsible for the direct supervision of all offenders sentenced to the Georgia Department of Corrections. There are four female state prisons, one medical facility which houses pregnant offenders, two treatment facilities and one probation detention center. There are 3,500 female offenders, which is 9% of the total state prison population. The female offender population is Georgia's fastest growing population.

Facts
Children of female offenders are 7 times more likely to become incarcerated than those of the non-incarcerated females
Female offenders report leaving behind 1 to 10 children in the care of others during incarceration
Pathways to crime include a long history of sexual and/or physical abuse, unhealthy relationships, substance abuse: Approx. 50% were physically abused Approx. 45% have history of sexual abuse 75% were drugs involved in convictions

Probation Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Program (PRSAT)
Only female PRSAT program in the state Six month, four-phase program Program utilized extensively by the judicial court system
Arrendale Transitional Center 112-bed center located on property Offenders, who are approximately 24 months of release, work witihin the community to obtain employment, transportation, and safe, affordable housing once released
Mental Health (MH) Program Approximately 60% of population receives MH services for Level III and Level IV (provides supportive living unit)

Lee Arrendale State Prison, Alto Diagnostic Facility
Opened in 1951 and renovated in 1999 Special mission facility with a capacity of 1,393 All female offenders must be processed through the facili-
