Overview
The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has contracts with two private companies, The GEO Group, Inc. and Corrections Corporations of America (CCA), that house 5,376 state offenders.
In 1997, the GDC entered into a contract with CCA to build and operate private prisons in Alamo, Millen and Nicholls
In 2011, the GDC entered into a contract with the GEO Group to build and operate a private prison in Milledgeville
At each facility, the Department has a full-time Private Prison Monitor on-site Oversees the facility's operations to ensure that all contract conditions are met Oversees the facility operates with a continuous focus on sanitation, safety and security.
Offenders housed at these facilities work on full-time details and are afforded the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of educational classes and counseling programs

FACILITIES Owns and operates the following three facilities:
Coffee Correctional Facility, Nicholls Opened in 1998 Male, medium security facility Maximum population by contract is 2,628 Maximum capacity by bed space is 3,032 Accredited by the American Correctional Association
(ACA) and by the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) in 2005 as required by contract Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) for emergency assistance maintained with Wheeler Correctional Facility, Jenkins Correctional Facility, and McRae Correctional Facility. The MOU is also maintained with law enforcement, fire departments, and hospitals in Coffee and Bacon Counties. Staffing at the facility:
Command/Command Post - 6 duty officers SORT members - 18 Training - 1 Transport - 1 Certified Officers - 235 DOC staff (Contract monitor) - 1 Inmate Programs offered: GED, Computers, CDL, Electrical, Masonry, School of
Christ, Life Principles Program, Canine Program and various Case Manger facilitated groups mandated by the state Community Impact Employs 400 citizens from Coffee and surrounding counties
Jenkins Correctional Facility, Millen Opened in 2012 Male, medium security facility Maximum population by contract is 1,150 Maximum capacity by bed space is 1,186 Accredited by ACA and Federal PREA certification MOU for emergency assistance maintained with Wheeler Correctional Facility, Coffee Correctional Facility, Rogers State Prison, Smith State Prison, Coastal State Prison and Augusta State Medical Prison. The MOU is also maintained with law enforcement, fire departments, and hospitals in Jenkins County. Staffing at the facility: Command/Command Post - 4 duty officers SORT members - 11 Training - 1 Transport - 3 Certified Officers - 123 DOC staff (Contract monitor) - 1 Inmate Programs offered: GED, computers, plumbing, faith-based, second change greyhounds, and bonds of trust (BOTS) programs as well as various Case Manager facilitated groups mandated by the state.
