PORT OF BRUNSWICK FACT SHEET

ORGANIZATION Created in 1945 by an act of the Georgia state legislature, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) is empowered to operate state-owned facilities and encourage international trade through the state of Georgia. GPA's deepwater terminals in Brunswick include Colonel's Island, Mayor's Point Terminal and Marine Port Terminals, Inc.
GOVERNING BODY The Georgia Ports Authority is governed by a nine-member board appointed by the Governor. A working board, the authority meets once each month to make financial decisions and set business policies pertaining to GPA facilities.
FACILITIES Colonel's Island: A dual-purpose 345-acre terminal located on the South Brunswick River, Colonel's Island features dry bulk and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) facilities. The computer-controlled dry bulk operation accommodates agricultural commodities with a maximum storage capacity of 1.6 million bushels in combined storage. Colonel's Island also offers two special-designed Ro-Ro docks. Two onterminal auto processors provide detailing services to Hyundai, Land Rover, Mitsubishi, Opel Sintra Minivan, Saab, Saturn, Taurus and Volkswagen/Audi automobiles which move through Brunswick prior to distribution. Nearly 100,000 vehicles crossed the Colonel's Island terminal docks during Fiscal Year 1996. Colonel's Island Railroad connects to CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern.
Mayor's Point Terminal: Located on the East River, Mayor's Point Terminal handles export forest products such as woodpulp and linerboard. This 22-acre breakbulk facility offers two berths, 305,000 square feet of transit shed space, 11 acres of open storage and one 30-ton gantry crane. Rail service is provided by CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern with 2,000 feet of rail track available for crossdock operation.
Marine Port Terminals, Inc.: This facility, located on the East River, is leased by Marine Port Terminals, Inc. Liquid/dry bulk and breakbulk commodities such as gypsum, limestone, petroleum products, linerboard and woodpulp are handled at this terminal. The five berths totaling 2,415 linear feet are equipped with one 165-ton pedestal crane, one 45-ton gantry crane, one I8-ton mobile crane, one Dravo ship unloader, 453,500 square feet of covered storage and 15 acres of open storage. Rail service is provided by CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern with 3,500 feet of trackage available for cross-dock operation.
