Health Services for Georgia's Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs
What is CMS?
Children's Medical Services (CMS) is a Department of Public Health (DPH) program that provides or arranges specialty medical/health care services for eligible children with chronic medical conditions in Georgia.
CMS services are family-centered, culturally/linguistically competent and community-based.
Who is eligible for CMS?
Children and youth, birth to age 21 who:
Live in Georgia Have an eligible medical condition Meet income eligibility
How does CMS help eligible children & families?
The CMS program provides support for families by:
Helping parents find resources Helping coordinate services
Assist families find special services as close to their home as possible
Work with primary care physician to coordinate health care and specialty services
Help prevent problems that may be common for children with special health needs
Where can children and youth receive CMS services?
CMS services are available statewide in
each of the 18 health districts in Georgia

What are some examples of eligible medical conditions?
Burns, cardiac, and chronic lung (including asthma & cystic fibrosis)
Craniofacial anomalies (including cleft lip and /or palate) Orthopedic and neuromuscular disorders
(including cerebral palsy, scoliosis, and amputations)
Neurological and neurosurgical disorders (including spina bifida, epilepsy and hydrocephalus), and conditions affecting vision (cataracts, glaucoma, amblyopia and strabismus)
What services are available?
Working with the child's primary medical provider, CMS may provide or arrange for: Medical/diagnostic testing
Specialty medical care, treatment, medications & supplies Care coordination Referral to community resources
