About the Trout Stream Map
This map was produced to guide the trout angler in locating trout streams. Due to scale limitations, not all streams are named and only enough roads to give the angler access to streams, particularly those on public land, are included. The shaded areas represent public lands, such as the Chattahoochee National Forest, where permission to fish is not required. For suggestions on where to fish for trout, consult the Trout Stream Index on the opposite side of this map. Heavily stocked streams will likely provide the best experience for beginners and children. Infrequently stocked streams and wild streams are more challenging. This map is not intended to be used to locate or define trout waters for water quality protection purposes. For an official listing of trout waters see "Rules and Regulations for Water Quality Control" (Chapter 391-3-6), published by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division, Atlanta, Georgia.

Fishing Tips
TACKLE & BAIT

A light rod with an ultralight spinning or spincast

reel filled with four or six pound teslline is best

suited for Georgia streams. Rods should be no

longerthan six feet to keep your line out of trees

while casting. Use a short shank size 10 hook

with one or two BB-size split shot weights

secured about 10 - 12 inches above the hook to

weight the line. Another alternative is fly-fishing.

However, fly-fishing is for more advanced

5

anglers and advice on rod lengths, line weight, fly patterns, etc. will vary depending on who you ask. Consu It a knowledgeable sales person at a

fly-fishing shop or sporting goods store for advice.
Common trout baits include worms, crickets, salmon eggs, spinning lures and corn. Take two types of bait in case the trout are finicky that day. Use just enough bait to cover the hook.

o -------

\

If you prefer to use lures the following should

work well: Rooster Tail (118 oz or less), Panther

Martin, Rapala (size 5) or less, and Little Cleos.

TECHNIQUES

Fish spots in the stream that offer the trout a

hiding or feeding place. These spots are usually

found near the bottom in pools or in slower

pockets of water near boulders and submerged

o

logs. Stand downstream of the place you want

o

to fish, cast your bait or lure several feet up-

stream of your target area. Let your bait drift

through Ihe target area as you slowly 'take up'

the slack in the line. A stop in the downstream

drift of your line along with a sharp 'tap-tap-tap'

signals a bite. Give the fish a moment to take the

bait then pull back and set your hook. Now you

have caught a Georgia trout.
