Other programs concern the history of north Georgia gold mining, timber industry and land development.
Activities at Unicoi include mountain music programs and performances by our mountain dance team, the Unicoi Cloggers. Appalachian arts and crafts workshops are conducted in pottery, weaving , quilting , and macrame.
The adventuresome may hike the Appalachian Trail, climb Yonah Mountain or canoe the white waters of the Chattahoochee, Chestatee or Chattooga Rivers. The whole family will enjoy visiting Dahlonega's Gold Museum, Tallulah Gorge, Anna Ruby Falls or shopping in the Alpine Village of Helen and other area shops .

UNICOI HISTORY
Unicoi is Georgia's most unique State Park and only Stateoperated conference center.
Throughout its history Unicoi has been dedicated to helping people enjoy outdoor recreation without upsetting the delicate balance of nature. For seven years Unicoi was operated as Georgia's only outdoor recreation experiment station.
When the 278 acre park opened on June 5, 1954 it had no campsites and few other facilities. Concerned north Georgians worked for many years to create an outdoor recreation experiment station and their goal was attained in 1968 when the State General Assembly created the North Georgia Mountains Authority. Titled to the Authority for experimental use were 1013 acres, including the existing park and its facilities. Later acquisitions increased total acreage to 2041 .

Beach Activities:
During the summer visitors may swim, fish, canoe or go boating in Unicoi Lake.
Unicoi has two beaches. The Day-Use Beach serves guests who are visiting Unicoi for the day. Picnic tables, barbecue grills, concessions and a beach house are located there. The area's most popular feature is a rope swing over the lake.

Rates: Swimming- SOt per person- all ages
Canoes and Row Boats- $1.00 per hour; $5 per day (8 hours).
The Stay-Use Beach serves Unicoi's overnight guests. It features swimming, boating, cabanas and a general store. Swimming is free ; canoe and row boat rentals are the same as the Day-Use Beach.
Lifeguards are on duty from 11 a.m . to 7 p.m .

The Authority operated Unicoi until September, 1973 when control was transferred to the State Department of Natural Resources, Office of Planning and Research.
Unicoi conducted many research projects when it was an experiment station. Examples include an outdoor therapeutic program for emotionally disturbed youngsters, sewage disposal by spray irrigation, Chattahoochee Corridor Study land use plan and a Master Plan Study development guide for Unicoi.
Unicoi's research department and the Station 's research role were discontinued ; it again became a State Park on July 1, 1975.
Today Georgia's Department of Natural Resources, Parks and Historic Sites Division utilizes Unicoi's unique characteristics to give visitors a memorable experience with nature.
