Situated on the shores of Lake Walter F. George in northern Clay County, George T. Bagby State Park is the mo t recent addition to the Georgia State Parks System.
The park provides a variety of day-use and stay-use activities a well as access to the famed fishing waters of Lake Walter F. George. This lake is well known throughout Georgia and Alabama as an excellent fishing area.
The park was named for George T. Bagby who had an active career in Georgia politics, State government, and conservation from 1947 to his retirement in 1976. His long list of public service includes 13 years in the Georgia House of Representatives, Speaker Pro Tern of that body in 1950-60, Director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in 1947. Director of the Game and Fish Department, Director of the State Parks Department, and Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources . His active career in the conservation of Georgia's natural resources won him recognition throughout the State of Georgia and the Nation.
The park is easily accessible by going north of Fort Gaines on Georgia 39. Enjoy your stay and plan to visit other Georgia State Parks conveniently located throughout the State.
SWIMMING: Swimming is not authorized on this site.
FISHING: Park waters are open for legal fishing throughout the year. Persons age 16 or older must have a valid State Fishing License. Non-residents age 16 or older must have a valid non-resident license. Bank fishermen not registered as overnight visitors must be off park premises no later than park closing time.
For your use and convenience a boat launching area is provided. See map for location.
BOATING: Private boats are permitted on park waters. No horsepower limitations. Water skiing is permitted. A boat launching area is provided. All boat use must be done in conformance with the Georgia Boating Safety Law.
CAMPING: The park provides two camping areas. Camping Area If I offers 26 combination tent and trailer sites. All 26 sites have water and electrical hookups, picnic tables, and grills. Camping Area If 2 offers 22 combination tent and trailer sites. There are no electrical or water hookups. Picnic tables and grills are provided. Each camping area has one comfort station providing hot showers, flush toilets, and electrical outlets.
NO RESERVATIONS accepted, all campsites rented on a first-come, first-served basis. All
campers must register for sites at the Park Office. Campers under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Maximum stay is 14 days. Dishwashing PROHIBITED at all drinking faucets and comfort stations. Please be considerate of other campers. Trash and garbage receptacles are available in all camping areas. PLEASE USE THEM.

PRIMITIVE CAMPING: A primitive camping area is provided. It is completely separate from all other activity areas on the park. The area is available at NO CHARGE to any organized youth group, such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.
Facilities provided are a cleared area for tents and a primitive-type sanitary facility (pit privy).
Reservations must be made by contacting the Park Office. Please make reservations so as to insure an available site.
Adult leader of organized group must register at Park Office.
PICNICKING: Picnicking permitted only in designated areas throughout the park. Tables and shelters available on a first-come, first-served basis. Trash and garbage receptacles are located in all picnicking areas. PLEASE USE THEM.
COTTAGES: The park provides 5 cottages fully equipped with electric stove, refrigerator, and all necessary cooking and food serving facilities. Towels and linens are provided. All cottages are heated and air conditioned. The newer cottages have
in addition to central heat, a large flagstone fireplace. Firewood is NOT furnished. Contact Park Office to determine if firewood can be purchased for a nominal fee at the park.
Reservations are accepted for a 2 week maximum and 2 day minimum. Contact Park Office for reservations, check in times, and rates. NO RESERVATIONS will be accepted for I night stays. A deposit equalling a I day rental charge is required . Cancellations accepted and deposit refunded if Park Office is notified 48 hours in advance. Reservations for all cottages can be accepted on an !!-month maximum advance notice.
NO PETS allowed in cottages. No kennels are provided.
Organized groups not eligible to rent cottages.
Please register at Park Office upon arrival and pay full amount of cottage rental fee.
FOOT TRAIL: The park provides a foot trail for your enjoyment of the park's outstanding natural scenery. To aid you in your walk or hike, refer to the map for the location of the trail.
PLAYGROUND: A children's playground is conveniently located in the day-use area of the park.
WILDLIFE: All wildlife and plantlife are protected in all State Parks. Please leave them unmolested so that the next visitor may enjoy them too.
PETS: Dogs are the only pets allowed in any State Park. All dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Dogs are prohibited in all cottages, mobile homes, park buildings, and swimming areas. Owners are responsible for conduct of pets and must clean up after them.
MOTOR BIKES: All motorized bikes are restricted to park roads. They must comply with all state regulations governing registration and safety equipment.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES & DRUGS: Alcoholic beverages of all kinds and the possession or use of drugs are strictly prohibited on park premises.
WEAPONS: Firearms, bow and arrows, explosives, fireworks, slingshots, fishing spears, or any device capable of causing death or injury are strictly prohibited.
