- The Herndon Home was built in 1910 for Alonzo Franklin Herndon (1858-1927), the slave-born founder of Atlanta Life Insurance Company and his first wife, Adrienne McNeil Herndon (1869-1910), a teacher at Atlantic University. The two-story, fifteen-room structure was built in the Beaux Arts Classical architectural style by the architect Norman D. Askins
