VETERAN SERVICES
Both federal and state laws require Employment Services offices to give special consideration to Veterans. Those qualifying fall into the following groups:
Those who served 181 days or more of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and who have a discharge that is other than dishonorable.
Those discharged from active duty at any time because of a service-connected disability.
Spouses of veterans under certain special conditions.
Qualified Veterans are given priority on all job openings by being considered for referral before other applicants.
Special trained Veteran representatives are available to provide Employment and Training services as needed.

PROFICIENCY TESTING
Typing and shorthand proficiency tests are available for applicants seeking employment in related clerical fields. When an employer specifies a typing or shorthand speed, referrals to clerical openings will be determined in part by these test scores.
UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits are weekly payments to eligible workers who become totally or partially unemployed through no fault of their own.
The benefit payments are intended to help these unemployed workers meet their expenses until they secure employment. The amount of benefits paid is based on each worker's past wages.
Benefits are payable only if the individual is, among other things, able and available to work and actively seeking re-employment.
JOB REFERRALIIOB PLACEMENT
Applicants are referred on the basis of aptitudes, experience/ skills, knowledge, applicant interest and employer job openings makes it vital that your Applicant Work Registration Record be complete. You will be called for referrals; therefore, you will also need to provide accurate information regarding your address and phone number. You do not need to return to our office after Group Orientation unless you are called in for referral or special services; or at least once every 45 days if you wish to keep your application active.

Since most local job openings will be filled using filescreened applicants, the JIS is primarily available for job seekers willing to commute or relocate and seeking work in another city or state.
COUNSELING
The Employment Service has trained professionals who provide counseling to applicants experiencing problems pertaining to vocational choice or change. Working with the applicant, the counselor helps the individual to increase his understanding of himself as well as the world of work.
The counseling services provided are tailored to the needs of the applicant and may include job seeking skills, job retention skills, labor market information and career exploration.
JOB TRAINING PARTNERSHIP ACT UTPA)
Job Training Partnership programs are operated locally by the Private Industry Council (PIC). Employment Service staff work closely with the Private Industry Council and can provide you information on local JTPA programs and eligibility requirements.
JOB CORPS
Job Corps is a program for young men and young women over age 16 but under age 22 who are out of school or out of work and who need to learn a trade or improve their education in order to have a better chance to get a job. There are Job Corps Centers in all parts of the United States. You can learn one of several trades and earn money while you learn.
