PLANNING YOUR TIME
Starti ng your search promptly after finishing school is a wise policy. A long delay between school or your last job and your application for work may give the employer the impression that this office is one of your last stops in a long and fruitless job search.
Once you start your search, you should treat it as a full-time job. Looking for work can become discouraging at times, but continued effort usual ly pays off. Here are some suggestions which may help you to plan your search time:
1. Plan and begin your search as soon as you become available for work.
2. Make your job hunting a full-time project.
3. Apply early enough in the day to allow time for multiple interv iews or tests.

SOURCES OF JOB INFORMATION
The first source of job information wi ll probably be friends, neighbors, family and relatives. Through their work and social contacts, they may know of job opportunities. At the same time, you will want to explore other channels. From among the many sources, you need to select those most appropriate for you. Some of the main sources are listed below:

and you feel that somewhere, a job opening must exist which could utilize your knowledge and abilities and also provide challenge and opportunitie s for advancement.
How do you find that job? You will need to carry out a well-planned job search. You have a product to sell - your skills, knowledge and abilities - and you need to market that product effectively.
To do this, you will need to consider your qualifications, find sources of job information, plan your search, prepare for the actual job interview, then learn from your job search experiences.
SELF-APPRAISAL HELPS . . .
First, you should evaluate your qualifications. You will need a detailed inventory of your background and experience so that you wil l know exactly what assets you have to offer an employer. This inventory w ill be a basic tool in your search. In preparing an inventory chart, the outline below should prove valuable:

THE JOB INTERVIEW
A job interview is your showcase for merchandising your talents. The employer at that time judges your qualificat ions, appearance, behavior and general fitness for the job opening. You have the opportunity to appraise the job, the employer and the firm.
In preparing for the interview . . . 1. Assemble all the papers you need to take with you. 2. Learn all you can about the company where you are going for the interview. 3. Know what you have to offer - your education and training, work experience, what you can do. 4. Know what kind of job you wanted and why you would like to work for the company. 5. If you do not have a resume, be prepared to furnish the names and addresse s of three responsible references. 6. Never take anyone with you to the interview. 7. Dress appropriately. Avoid either too formal or too casual attire.
During the intervie w . . . 1. Be pleasant and friendly but also businesslike. 2. Let the employer control the interview. 3. Stress your qualifications without exaggeration. 4. Be prepared to discuss salary, but not until the employer introduce s the subject. 5. Be flexible and wi lling, but give the employer a clear idea of your job preferences. 6. In discussing your schooling or previous work experiences, do not criticize your former teachers or employers. 7. Do not discuss your personal or financial problems unless you are specifically asked about them. 8. Thank the employer for the interview.
