GEORGIA
DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
MICHAEL L. THURMOND, COMMISSIONER

GOODWORKS!
GoodWorks! is a service strategy which evolved from the vision of Commissioner Michael L. Thurmond. It began as a pilot in Richmond County, but now is a statewide initiative to help TANF applicants, recipients and non-custodial parents become employed and move to self-sufficiency.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
l Enabling Customers to Reach their Highest Potential l Valuing Customer Choice and Individual Needs l Helping Customers Move to Self-Sufficiency l Communication is Key to Success l Appreciating that We Can do More Together than We Can Alone l We All Share in Success of the Customer l We are All Working Toward a Common End
GoodWorks! is the beginning of a continuum of life long learning and career development services provided through Georgia's Workforce System. It combines a holistic family focus approach while utilizing a team of both public and private par tnerships.

INTENSIVE SERVICE STRATEGY
The intensive service strategy is what set s Georgia's GoodWorks! apart from other conventional t raining and mentoring programs. The unique menu of intensive service components include:
Recruitment: Nontradit ional approach-relationship based contacts (i.e. door-door, face-to face).
Work Evaluation: Initial on-site assessment, normally 1-3 weeks where customers are paid for 20 hours per week at minimum wage rate.
Work Adjustment: On-site or community work setting with structured supervision. Customers normally work up to 30 hours per week at the prevailing wage rate.
Individualized Job Coaching: One on one employment assistance.
Job Retention: Continued follow-up to provide the necessary support needed to maintain employment.
Career Advancement: Skill level enhancement utilizing the work force development system.
The key to this entire service strategy is the Personal Advisor who helps the customer remove work barriers. The Personal Advisor remains with the recipient from start to f inish assisting them with their personal and professional development.
