Admission to a rehabilitation program may bring with it fear and uncertamty about the future, as well as frustration over new limitations. The trauma of an injury or illness often serves as a catalyst, causing that person to begin a journey, searchffig for hope and meaning in their lives. At the Roosevelt I11stitute, we believe this journey of hope involves a team approach, including doctors, nurses, therapists, tecluucians, counselors and psychologists along with a chaplain.
Pastoral Care Services have long been a part of the Roosevelt mstitute, ever since the Roosevelt Chapel was consecrated to the worship of God in 1939. Without state funding to cover costs of chaplaincy services, we depend on the generosity of churches, organizations and individuals to keep this component of our programs going.
At a time when physical and emotional stress are heightened, a pastoral care professional can provide compassionate listening and guidance to patients, students and their fanUlies. The pastoral caregiver ministers to individuals and groups, integrating the entire healing process.
