WHAT IS IT?
A voluntary program that recognizes family child care and group home providers who provide a rich, interactive learning environment for children.
HOMES OF QUALITY LEVELS
Homes ofMerit Homes ofDistinction
Homes of Quality levels are measured by the Family Day Care Rating Scale (FDCRS) a nationally recognized method of rating quality child care.
A special certificate is awarded that can be used for marketing and parent education.

How are Home ofDistinction
and Home ofMerit
achieved?
The Home of Distinction level is achieved by scoring an average of five on the Family Day Care Rating Scale (FDCRS).
T~e Home of Merit level is achieved by sconng an average of three on the Family Day Care Rating Scale.
Who can participate?
Registered family child care or licensed group child care providers who: II Have operated for at least one year
II Have a good licensing history II Have attended a Homes of Quality
Orientation within the past year. II Agre.e to meet standards above licensing
requirements.
What resources are available to help with this process?
Free orientation/training sessions about the Homes of Quality program are provided s~atewide . Call the Child Care Licensing Section for a schedule of orientations at 404-657-5560.
Technical assistance is available in many counties to help providers prepare for the FDCRS assessment.
Grants for needed learning equipment and materials are also available in many counties.

How THE
PROGRAM WORKS:
STEP 1: Attend a Homes of Quality program orientation
STEP 2: Complete a self-assessment of your home (resources are available to help you).
STEP 3: When your home is ready, submit your application to the Child Care Licensing Section.
STEP 4: Score at least a "3" on the FDCRS observation visit to your home.
STEP 5: Receive your FDCRS scores and special certificate.

Homes of Quality is a part of the G eorgia Early Le arn ing Initiative (GEL!). In G ELI-Plus counties, pro viders with the Home of M erit or Home of Distinction certificates may be eligible for higher reimbursement rates for subsidized children.
