Eat well and have a healthy baby. Your diet is something you can control-something only you can do for your baby. Weight Gain It is good to gain weight when pregnant. The pattern of weight gain is just as important as the number of pounds gained. Your health professional can show you what's right for you. Never try to lose weight when you are pregnant.
Liquids Drink 10-12 eight-ounce glasses of liquids like water, milk, and juice every day. Extra liquids may be needed in special situations, especially during hot weather.
Vitamins and Minerals Your health professional may recommend a vitamin and mineral pill.
Nausea and Vomiting The following tips may help you feel better if you are having this problem: - Eat small meals several times a day. - Before getting out of bed, eat
saltines, dry toast, or hard candies.

- Drink liquids between meals instead of with meals.
- Eat less spicy and fatty food.
Heartburn The following tips may help you feel better if you are having a problem with heartburn: - Eat small meals several times a day.

- Eat only those foods that agree with you. Spicy foods, gas-forming foods, and caffeine cause problems for some pregnant women.
Constipation Reduce your chances of becoming constipated by eating high-fiber foods, drinking plenty of water, and getting regular exercise. High fiber foods include whole grain breads and cereals and raw fruits and vegetables.

HARMFUL HABITS
Pica Avoid eating laundry sta.rch, cornstarch, dirt, clay, flour, chalk, and ashes because they may be harmful.
Caffeine Limit coffee, tea, colas, chocolate, and other soft drinks.
Street Drugs, Smoking, and Alcohol Do not use these when pregnant. They are very dangerous to your baby.
