Who we are . ..
T he South Central Health District is the public health authority for ten counties in middle Georgia. W'e are one of nineteen state health districts under the Division ofPublic Health in the Georgia Department ofHuman Resources. Our ten county health departments, two satellite offices, and two school clinics, coordinated by the district offices, are well positioned to provide vital health services to the community.
The staffofthe South Central Health District are committed to the care oftheir customers and to continually enhancing the health oftheir communities. This diverse group ofproftssionals - including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse practitioners, environmentalists, nutritionists, epidemiologists, health educators, health technicians, support staff, administrative staff, a physician, service coordinators and special instructors - works diligently to achieve the mission and core functions ofPublic Health.

How we Make a
Difference. . .
During fiscal year 1997, Public Healrh programs were able ro make a difference in rhe communiries of rhe Sourh Central Healrh Disrricr by providing:
32,315 immunizarions ro children and adults; free mammography screenings (0 526 uninsured or
underinsured women ages 50 and over;
srroke and hean arrack prevention services (0 2,054 parients; res ring and rrearment of 430 clients for sexually rransmined
diseases;
1,077 food esrablishment inspecrions, 37 horel/morel inspecrions, 60 personal care home evaluarions, and 1,533 sewage sysrem sire evaluarions;
supplemental food and nurririon educarion ro an average of 4,832 clients per month;
identificarion, rrearment, referral, and follow-up for 250 children ages 0-3 wirh developmental delays;
182 healrh educarion presentarions (0 various groups and agencIes.
In fiscal year 1997, 32,599 people representing 26 percent of rhe (Oral disrricr popularion urilized Public Healrh services for a (Oral of 75,704 visirs. However, rhis number reflecrs only rhose healrh consumers who received clinical services directly rhrough rheir local health depanment. It does nor include rhe rhousands of community residents who were served indirectly by Public Healrh services such as inspecrion of resraurants and horels, sewage sysrem inspecrion and disposal, rabies control, warer sysrem fluoridarion, healrh educarion/promorion, and disease surveillance acriviries.

Where \ve Are.
The South Central Health District is made up of professionals working in ten counties in middle Georgia. These counties include: Bleckley, Dodge, Johnson, Laurens, Montgomery, Pulaski, Telfair, Treuden, Wheeler
and Wilcox. Together, they cover an area of approximately 3,700 square
miles. Dublin, the county seat of Laurens County, serves as the district headquarters.
