Baby teeth are very important. They help a child talk, chew food, and swallow. They also save space for permanent teeth. Healthy teeth give your child a great looking smile. Children care about how they look, too!
Baby teeth usually start coming in when the baby is about 4 to 12 months old.
Nursing bottle mouth can ruin the teeth.

What is "nursing bottle mouth"? It is tooth decay that destroys a child's
front teeth. What causes nursing bottle mouth?
It is caused by putting a child to bed with a bottle of milk, juice or sweet drink. When the child goes to sleep, the liquid stays in the mouth longer.

How can you keep your child from getting nursing bottle mouth?
At bedtime or naptime, put your child to bed with a teddy bear.
If your child needs a bottle for comfort to go to sleep, fill it with water or use a clean pacifier.
Also try rocking, patting, or walking with your child. This can work better than a bottle to help your child feel calm and secure.
At 6 to 8 months, help your child start learning to use a cup.
By the time your child is one year old, he or she will no longer need a bottle.
When do you start caring for your baby's teeth?
Care of teeth should begin early in life. As soon as the baby teeth start to come in, clean them every day with a small soft toothbrush and a small amount of toothpaste.
When should you take your child to the dentist?
Begin taking your child to the dentist at age three.
Note: When a baby sucks a bottle lying down, liquid drains from the throat into
I \ the middle ear. This may cause an earache or an ear infection. It may also harm your baby's hearing.
