SELECTED BLACK AGE-SEX ADJUSTED MORTALITY AND MORBIDITY RATES
This selected list of black mortality and morbidity statistics is being published as a supplement to the original Selected Total Mortality and Morbidity Rates. The purpose of these statistics is to provide a relative planning aid for health programs.
Historically, the health of the black population in Georgia has suffered, compared to the white population, because of its past lower socioeconomic status (Table 1). Therefore, the thrust of these statistics is to indicate that some emphasis must be placed in health programs to change the pattern of mortality and morbidity of the black population.
Some counties are not included because the black popula-
tion was not statistically measurable (as indicated by *).
Also, some county rates will appear to be high because the black population, although significant statistically, is subject to change or random variation. For this reason, the individual numbers for these counties should be observed instead of the rates.
