DHR Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Enhanced Services
OVERVIEW Five core DHR divisions and offices have pulled together to provide one system of care for Georgia's grandparents raising grandchildren. They include Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), Division of Aging Services (DAS), Office of Child Support Services (OCSS), Mental Health Developmental Diseases and Addictive Disease (MHDDAD) and Division of Public Health (DPH).
GOALS/OBJECTIVES OF THE GRG ENHANCED SYSTEM Reduction in the number of children that come into care(DFCS) Increase # of grandparents involved in DAS Wellness programs (DAS) Ensure proper child support payments are directed to the custodial parent or grandparent (OCSS) Provide a cohesive DHR entry point for grandparents raising grandchildren (MHDDAD/DPH)
CURRENT DATA As of June 30, 2007:
9,003 of eligible grandfamilies are receiving enhanced services under a single system of care *
For those families: 5299 monthly subsidy payments have been made to grandparents on behalf of their grandchildren beginning in August 1, 2006 (DFCS)* o A payment of $50 per child per month shall for grandparent(s) (age 60+ or disabled) to
cover additional expenses associated with rearing their grandchildren
157 grandfamilies have received Crisis Intervention Payments - CRISP (DFCS) $61,976.66 dollars of child support has been redirected to grandparents raising
grandchildren (OCSS) 151 grandparents raising their grandchildren have been counseled (DAS) 137 grandparents have received respite care (DAS) 178 grandparents are participating in wellness programs
