Family stress and conflict increases the likelihood of divorce or separation. Low income families are twice as likely to separate compared to financially stable families. As of 2007, 33% of Georgian children live in households where parents/guardians do not have full time jobs putting them at a higher risk for family instability. Youth employment is also essential to family stability and growth. As of April 2010, the national unemployment rate for youth ages 16-19 is 25.4%.
The unemployment rate is increasing and as of 2009 it is 10.6% in the state of Georgia. As of 2006, 30% of all Georgian households have no adult working at all. 20% of all children residing in Georgia live in poverty with 9% living in extreme poverty. The number of households in Georgia with children receiving food stamps increased by 16% in
the past 5 years Georgia ranks as one of the highest states for youth unemployment at 71%
