Fire was an important tool to the early Native American people. They used it for many things like clearing forests and capturing animals for food. Even today, we use fires to help us in many ways.
Foresters and rangers use fire to help manage the forests. Known as a "prescribed burn," this is a very effective way to enhance wildlife habitat, maintain a native ecosystem, control insect populations and disease, and to lessen wildfire damage by reducing the build-up of burnable fuels.
