Earth Day [1993]

In observation of-Earth Day,there are countless projects your organization can participate in to show your concern for the earth's environment. The follow-
ing is only a partial list of activity
suggestions.

REFORESTATION

1. Start a tree-planting drive in your community. 2. Organize your group to participate in a one-time planting of 50 (or more) trees
on a designated plot of land. 3. Take orders for live Christmas trees and agree to obtain them for
purchasers. 4. Plan for regeneration of your forest before you harvest.

RECYCLING

1. Set up a recycling program within your organization and be responsible for making sure the items are delivered to the recycling center.
2. Organize a recycling program in a local community or neighborhood; provide bins for paper, aluminum, glass and newspaper, and agree to collect them on a regular basis.
3. Conduct a door-to-door recycling campaign, distributing Earth Day flyers and collecting recyclable materials.
4. Build a compost pile for leaves, grass clippings, and other organic waste. Use the compost in your garden.

LITTER CONTROL

1. Adopt a local highway and agree to keep the area free of litter; contact the Department of Transportation for details.
2. Organize or get involved in a river clean-up project. 3. Organize your group to collect waste from a local area (park,neighbor-
hood).
4. Work with law enforcement and local leaders to enforce litter laws.

OTHER

1. Organize a poster-drawing contest, with an environmental theme, for children, and then hang the posters in a visible place.
2. Sponsor a lecture on environmental ethics. 3. Properly dispose of motor oil, or any other petroleum products. It only takes a
very small amount of these to affect the quality and even the taste of water.
4. Feel free to use your imagination to create projects that will reflect environmental concern and teach respect for the earth.
