23 Georgia Scholar Program

Criteria for Selection
The Georgia Scholar is a graduating high school senior who exhibits excellence in all phases of school life, in community activities and in the home.
The student has a minimum score of 1300 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) at one test administration or a score of 31 on the American College Test (ACT).
The student will have earned 22 Carnegie units of credit for graduation including
3 units in science, including 1 unit in chemistry or physics;
4 units in mathematics, including 1 unit in Algebra II; 3 units in social studies, including economics and
citizenship, world history and U.S. studies; 4 units in English language arts; 2 units of foreign language.
The student will have pursued academic study in visual art, music, dance, theater or other arts areas.
In all work taken in grades 9-12, the student either has maintained a 3.75 average on a 4.0 scale (OR)
ranks in the upper 10 percent of his or her graduating class.
The student has maintained 95 percent attendance in grades 9-12.
During grades 9-12, the student has participated in three interscholastic events (OR)
has achieved significant recognition in interscholastic events, for example, holding first chair or leading a
section in band or chorus, serving as athletic team captain, placing in individual athletic events, debates, livestock, project or other vocational competitions or similar events.
The student has assumed leadership in at least two extra curricular activities sponsored by the school.
The student has assumed leadership in youth activities outside the school.
The student is registered to vote if he or she is 18 years old.
The student shows evidence of self-esteem and concern for others in day-to-day activities.
Governor's Scholarship
Program
As a recipient of the Georgia Scholar Award, you are automatically eligible to receive a Governor's Scholarship if you continue your postsecondary education in an approved public or private college or university in Georgia and meet other program requirements.
The Governor's Scholarship is intended to be used to defray the cost of tuition for a maximum of 4 years eligibility.
The Governor's Scholarship Program is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Authority through an agreement with the Georgia Board of Education.

The Georgia Scholar Program is an effort by the Georgia Department of Education to identify and recognize high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life. It is the first step in a plan to enhance excellence throughout Georgia's public school system. The program is coordinated by the Division of General Instruction of the Department of Education through local coordinators in each public school system and private schools in the state.
