The Creation of DDS
In January 2005, Governor Sonny Perdue announced the creation of a new agency with one mission: t o issue drivers' licenses in the most efficient and customerfriendly manner possible. On May 2, 2005, Governor Perdue signed House Bill 50 1 creating the Department of Driver Services (DDS) and appointed Greg. Dozier the first Commissioner.
On July 1, 2005, DDS oficialIy assumed drivers' licensing responsibilities in Georgia. Governor Perdue announced several new customer service enhancements on that first day: I ) The location and timeline for a new customer service center in downtown Atlanta; 2) new payment options t o be offered at all centers; 3) the addition of Monday road test reservations.
Milestones and Achievements
New Initiatives Enhancements in DDS services include offering a 5-year ($20.00) or I 0-year
($35.00)license and Georgia Identification Card; a $5.00 discount for customers who renew by mail,
internet, or telephone; Veterans receive free licenses and IDSvalid until age 65; IDSneeded for voting purposes are issued free. Customer Wait Times Reduced

honor the pledge of providing a regular drivers' license renewal at every CSC statewide in "30 minutes or it's free". Free licenses issued have decreasedfrom 1 I00 per week duly 2005) to 15 per week (May 2006).
On-line Services
Remain Popular On-line transactions have increased significantly with more than one million Georgian's renewing a driver's license or ID card by mail, Internet or telephone since the program launched in 2002.
On-line Services ~ n h a t k e dCustomers may now choose more transactions
on-line including initiating a change of address; replace a lost license; view andlor download a personal driving history (MVR) and create a personal online account t o track all on-line transactions.
Making Safer Drivers DDS is commirted to licensing the most qualified drivers. First-time drivers can now take a practice road rules test on-line. Complete information regarding ADAP and Joshua's Law now can also be found at
w.dds.ga.gov.
Investigative Sewices DDS investigators are cross-trained to handle all types of cases. Continuing our commitment to fraud prevention, customers may now alert investigations via web or a hotline number.
