There was an increase in physicians becoming board certified between 1996 and 2006.
1996: 83.7% of urologists physicians were board certified compared to 73.4% of total physicians.
2006: 86.5% of urology physicians were board certified compared to 83.2% of total physicians.
Urologists have grown by 11.7% between 1996 & 2006.

MSA VERSUS NON-MSA DISTRIBUTION OF UROLOGY PHYSICIANS
Urology physicians have always been concentrated in Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs). Likewise, there has been a decline in urologists practicing in Non-Metropolitan Statistical Areas (Non-MSAs). From 2004 to 2006, there was a 9.5% decrease in the percentage of urologists practicing in Non-MSA designated areas.

Since 1996, there has been an increase in the number of female urology physicians practicing in Georgia. Additionally, the percentage of black physicians has increased by 5.6%, while the percentage of white urology physicians has decreased by 8.9% between 1996 and 2006.

increased 6.8% between 1996 and 2006.
Similarly, the percentage of total practicing
physicians age 55 and older increased by 2.8% during the same time period.
TRENDS IN THE NUMBER AND RATE OF UROLOGY PHYSICIANS
Over the last ten years, the NUMBER of urology physicians practicing in Georgia has fluctuated from year-toyear, but increased overall. The RATE for urology physicians has decreased from 3.4 in 1996 to 3.0 in 2006.
