There was an increase in physicians becoming board certified between 1996 and 2006.
1996: 84.9% of radiology physicians were board certified compared to 73.4% of total physicians.
2006: 88.9% of radiology physicians were board certified compared to 83.2% of total physicians.
Seven of the twelve SCSAs are below the state rate and eleven are below the U.S. rate for radiology physicians.
The rate for Region 2, which includes northeast Georgia, is the lowest at 5.0.
Radiology physicians have increased by 17.0% between 1996 and 2006.

MSA VERSUS NON-MSA DISTRIBUTION OF RADIOLOGY PHYSICIANS
Radiology physicians have always been concentrated in Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs). However, there has been a decline of radiologists practicing in Non-Metropolitan Statistical Areas (Non-MSAs). From 2004 to 2006, there was a 6.6% decrease in the percentage of radiologists practicing in Non-MSA designated areas.

Since 1996, there has been an increase in the number of female radiology physicians practicing in Georgia. Overall, the percentage of minority physicians has increased (2.6%). Black physicians increased by 9.2%, while the percentage of white radiology physicians decreased by 15.1% between 1996 and 2006.

older increased by 3.1% between 1996 and 2006.
Similarly, the percentage of total practicing
physicians age 55 and older increased by 2.8% during the same time period.
TRENDS IN THE NUMBER AND RATE OF RADIOLOGY PHYSICIANS
Over the last ten years, the NUMBER of radiology physicians practicing in Georgia has fluctuated from year-toyear, but increased overall. The RATE for radiology physicians has decreased, with fluctuations from year-toyear.
