REGULATIONS OF THE GEORGIA STATE BOARD OF ENTOMOLOGY GOVERNING SHIPMENT OF SWEET POTATOES.
Whereas, The Sweet Potato Root Weevil ( Cyc!as [orniicariu s Oliv.) is known to occur in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Florida, and the southern part of Charlton County, Georgia; and,
Whereas, This insect is very destructive in its habits, and is liable to spread to other sections of the State, causing great damage to the sweet potato industry:
The Georgia State Board of Entomology, by virtue of the authority vested in it by Sections 2135-2136 of the General Code, hereby prohibits the delivery in Georgia of sweet potato vines, plants, slips, cuttings, draws, and tubers, and morning glory vines and roots, originating in Texas, Louisiana, Missisisppi, Tennessee, and Florida, when consigned to any point in Georgia, unless each box, bundle. or package bears an official certificate tag of the State Inspector, or other authorized official of the State in which such sh ipments originate, certifying that each box, bundle, or package ori ginated in an area shown by actual inspection to be free from the sweet potato weevil, and is itself uninfested by this weevil.
Shipments of the articles enumerated above originating in the southern part of Charlton County, Georgia, and consigned to points in Georgia north of the Georgia Southern and Florida Railway, are hereby prohibited except on a special certificate issued by the Georgia State Board of Entomology.
The above regulations to be effective on and after February 11th, 1918.
