A new bee has arrived in the Southeast!
It's called the Africanized honeybee.
It's a dangerous kind of bee--you might know it as the "killer bee" and you need to be extra careful around them. How can you stay safe? BEE SMART!
How is an Africanized honeybee different from other bees?
It is more protective of its home and the area around it.
If you find a bee's nest, BEE SMART!
Walk away calmly.
It becomes angry easier.
Tell a parent, teacher or other grown-up.
When it is mad, it will chase you further
It stays mad for a longer time.
This bee is not more poisonous than other bees, but because it gets angry so easily, it is more likely to sting you. So BEE CAREFUL!
Don't make bees angry: BEE NICE!
Stay away from the bees' nest.
Do not throw objects, such as sticks or rocks, at a bee's home.
