University System a Partner in New Initiative
Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement

A consortium of state government, public schools, higher education, and business is launching a new initiative this spring, the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement.
The institute will focus on the preparation and development of educational leaders, research and evaluation of best practices, and policy alignment to support educational leaders.
Dr. Jan Kettlewell, associate vice chancellor for P-16 Initiatives for the University System, is serving as the project director for the $3 million grant from The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that helped to launch the institute. In addition, she also is chair of the institute's executive committee.
"School superintendents and principals are in a pivotal position to drive change for student success," Kettlewell said."This initiative will give them the tools and policy support needed to make a difference."
Debbie Cone, a former teacher who has been involved in leadership development in the corporate sector for many years, has been appointed executive director of the Leadership

Institute. She will have an office
