Guaranteed Tuition Plan Approved
New Fixed Rates Begin in Fall 2006
Beginning this fall, new freshmen students enrolling in the University System of Georgia's 35 colleges and universities will participate in a Guaranteed Tuition Plan that will freeze their tuition rate and encourage their "on-time" graduation.
New students entering the System's four-year universities will pay a guaranteed rate for four years nicknamed the "Fixed for Four" plan and those entering the System's two-year colleges will pay a guaranteed rate for three years.
"Our new tuition strategy should strongly encourage students to graduate in a timely manner," said University System of Georgia Chancellor Erroll B. Davis Jr. "The guaranteed rate will allow students and families to plan for college expenses with a high degree of certainty and in the process, save money on a college education."

The University System currently graduates well over 2,000 nurses per year. The recently announced initiative is expected to increase this number by more than 400 during the 2006-2007 academic year.
The new initiative will encompass a range of programs, including expanding the availability of associate, bachelor's, and doctoral programs in nursing. The doctoral programs address another factor in the statewide nursing shortage a shortage of nursing faculty to train nurses.
Another key element of the initiative will be the creation of simulation labs at Valdosta State and Albany State universities that will allow nursing students to gain experience in a realistic clinical setting.
The USG "Nursing Program Initiative" will build on the University System's successful and ongoing "Healthcare Professionals Initiative."
