Call to Order
Today, Jan. 14, is the first day of the 2008 session of the Georgia General Assembly. Here is a look ahead at some important dates and the session schedule:
Tuesday, Jan. 15 ..............Georgia Chamber of Commerce Annual Eggs & Issues Breakfast (7 a.m., Georgia World Congress Center). Gov. Sonny Perdue, Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle all are scheduled to speak
Wednesday, Jan. 16 .........Gov. Perdue's State of the State and Budget Address (2 p.m., House Chamber, Capitol)
Monday, Jan. 21...............Martin Luther King Jr. Day (legislature not in session)
Jan. 22-23........................Budget hearings for state agencies

Senate Adds One New Member, House Adds Two
The Georgia Senate gained a new member last summer when Bill Jackson of Appling was sworn in to replace Sen. Jim Whitehead, who resigned to run for Congress. The House of Representatives has two new members: Bill Maddox of Zebulon and Matt Ramsey of Peachtree City.
