EQUINE RESCUE PARTNERSHIP BENEFITS PULASKI STATE PRISON INMATES
The Georgia Department of Corrections and the Georgia Department of Agriculture have recently formed a partnership to provide an equine rescue program at Pulaski State Prison. The program operates without the use of tax dollars. The Georgia Equine Rescue League, the Georgia Horse Council and other organizations and individuals assist with financial support.
Risk Reduction Services and Workforce Development coordinated with Middle Georgia Technical College to offer veterinary assistant certificates to inmates involved in the equine rescue program.
The animals remain in temporary care until they're nursed back to health. Horses not returned to their owners are sold at auctions, which creates another source of funding. Thirteen inmates currently participate in the rescue program.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new partnership on March 26 at Pulaski, where 21 animals are currently housed.

A WORD FROM OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE CHAMPION
In this economic climate, thinking outside the box to exceed our customer's expectations is a very practical solution. What are some ideas and solutions we can come up with to help our customers? We can acknowledge our customers and give them our attention. We can treat them with courtesy and kindness to gain their respect. We can listen and be responsive to their needs. We can use our talents and skills to create new ideas for interacting with our internal and external customers. We will know and implement our agency's resources and services. When we display knowledge, resourcefulness and utilize our talents we will be able to find solutions in our quest to exceed our customer's expectations with ideas that reside outside of the box.

SCOTT AND MEN'S STATE PRISONS CONSOLIDATE BRAILLE PROGRAM
The Braille Program at Scott State Prison in Hardwick, Georgia began in April, 2006 as an outgrowth of the Braille Program at Men's State Prison. In February 2008, the two facilities consolidated the programs and became one unit called the Georgia Braille Transcribers (GBT).

Upon completion of 960 contact hours and course objectives, participants receive a certificate of achievement from MGTC.
