Today is the 26th anniversary of World AIDS Day, observed annually on Dec. 1 to raise awareness about the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. The Georgia Department of Public Health's (DPH) experts are hoping today's activities and celebrations will provide a clear perspective on the impact of HIV and AIDS locally. The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is "Focus, Partner, Achieve: An AIDS-free Generation."

Middle and High School Students Compete for the 2014 Health IT Student Innovation Award

It was tough competition among the rising generation of technology leaders at last week's Health IT Leadership Summit's Student Innovation Award ceremony in Atlanta. Middle and high school students from throughout Georgia put on their game faces while they presented creative technology solutions designed to combat important health issues in Georgia.

The DeKalb County Board of Health recently received a $72,400 Safe Communities grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety to improve the safety and wellbeing of DeKalb County residents. The grant will allow Safe Communities DeKalb to make roads safer for children, teens and pedestrians of all ages.
Safe Communities DeKalb is led by the DeKalb County Board of Health (DCBOH) and is supported by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Safe Communities is a model used by communities throughout the nation to identify and address local injury problems. The model also promotes injury prevention at the local level to solve highway and traffic safety problems. Safe Communities DeKalb is a full partner with the Governor's Office of highway Safety (GOHS) and is distinctively the only local Safe Communities DeKalb will be utilizing a health department funded by GOHS in Georgia. $72,400 grant to implemented traffic-
related safety programs for DeKalb county residents.
