Weekly Report July 29 August 4, 2018
This report is a broad sampling of events that have taken place in the past week, but does not include all actions taken by the Law Enforcement Division.
Region I- Acworth (Northwest)
No activity to report.
Region II- Gainesville (Northeast)
No activity to report.
Region III- Thomson (East Central)
NEWTON COUNTY On Thursday, July 26, and Friday, July 27, CPL Worth and Game Warden Schay assisted Walton County SO, GSP, and GBI in the search, recovery, and following investigation of a fleeing suspect.
LAKE OCONEE On the 27-29th, SGT Garthright, CPL Worth, and Game Warden Schay, patrolled Lake Oconee for boating activity. During these patrols, multiple violations of allowing an underage child to ride in a moving vessel without wearing a PFD, towing without an observer onboard, operating a PWC within 100' of an object in the water above idle speed, failure to obey regulatory marker, operating a vessel with improper lights, failure to meet boater education requirements, and operating a vessel with insufficient PFDs were documented.
Region IV- Macon (West Central)
No activity to report.
Region V- Albany (Southwest)
EARLY COUNTY During a high visibility weekend patrol of the Early County section of the Chattahoochee River, game wardens Scott Carroll and Quinn Fogle aggressively enforced the states BUI law based off of citizen complaints of heavy drinking on the river. Over a two day period a multitude of boating safety violations were addressed, including seven BUI arrests.
LEE COUNTY On August 1st, Game Wardens Clint Martin, David Jones, Rick Sellers, Ellis Wynn and Scott Carrol along with the Lee County Sheriff's Department and the Lee County Fire Department responded to a drowning on the Muckalee Creek. A group of teenagers went swimming in the creek and one of the teenagers drowned. The body was recovered by the Lee County Dive Team and the Sumter County Dive Team.
Region VI- Metter (Southeast)
LAURENS COUNTY On July 29th, Corporal (Cpl.) Dan Stiles and Ranger First Class (RFC) Rodney Horne patrolled boat landings on the Oconee River and the Hugh Gillis Public Fishing Area checking for fishing and boating safety violations. Four vessels were inspected and seven fishing licenses were checked. Three violations were documented; two violations for operating a vessel without registration and one for operating a vessel without a throwable device.
Region VII- Brunswick (Coastal)
GLYNN COUNTY On August 4th, Cpl. John Evans patrolled around St Simons Island for flounder gigging activity. He made contact with four different boats, all of which had violations. Citations were issued for light violations, no registration, no fire extinguishers, no throwable devices, and two of the boats had gigged three illegal fish which were seized.
