Weekly Report May 7 May 13, 2017
This report is a broad sampling of events that have taken place in the past week, but does not include all actions taken by the Law Enforcement Division.

Region I- Acworth (Northwest)
DADE COUNTY On May 7th, Sgt. Mike Barr and Cpl. Ben Cunningham responded to an emergency search and rescue at Cloudland Canyon State Park. The New Salem Fire Department, Dade County Sheriff's Office, DNR Parks and DNR Law Enforcement Division worked the incident. The incident is under investigation. FLOYD COUNTY On May 8th, Cpl. Ben Cunningham and Sgt. Mike Barr went to Pepperell Primary School in Lindale, Georgia near Rome, Ga. and worked with a second grade class on boating and water safety for the SPLASH program.
Cpl. Ben Cunningham taught boating and water safety to the second grade class at Pepperell Primary School in Lindale, Ga. near Rome, Ga. On May 8th, Cpl. Ben Cunningham and Sgt. Mike Barr assisted the Rome Police Department and Floyd County Sheriff's Office with an escaped inmate. He had escaped while at a court appearance. The Game Wardens looked along the rivers in Rome, Ga. by patrol boat and on foot but did not make contact with the suspect. On May 13th, Cpl. Ben Cunningham and RFC Roger McConkey assisted Rome/Floyd County Fire Department and Rome Police Department look for a missing 20 year old male. The Game Wardens looked along the Coosa River by patrol boat. The missing male was found safe on land close to the Coosa Country Club.

CHATTOOGA COUNTY On May 10th, RFC Roger McConkey was patrolling Chattooga County when he came upon a wreck on Highway 27 on Taylor's Ridge. The officer found all three lanes of traffic blocked with galvanized pipe that had fallen off a truck. The roadway was closed and cleaned of the pipes by the officer and good samaritans that stopped to assist. One vehicle traveling the roadway received damage when one pipe stuck through the rear bumper of the car after being run over. The Georgia State Patrol completed a crash report for the damaged vehicle.
On May 11th, RFC Roger McConkey assisted the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office with the execution of a search warrant on a residence in the county. Hays State Prison K-9 Officer and RFC McConkey provided a perimeter around the location to apprehend any subjects that fled from the residence. The search warrant was executed with six subjects being arrested for various drug related charges.
WALKER COUNTY On May 13th, RFC Roger McConkey and Cpl. Ben Cunningham responded to a hunting without permission complaint around 11:30 p.m. The complainant advised that raccoon hunters had been seen on their property and dogs had been heard. The Game Wardens arrived at the location and found two hunters. One of the hunters was observed walking from the complainant's property and was charged for hunting without permission. No other violations were found.
PAULDING COUNTY On May 7th, Sgt. Eric Brown and RFC Daniel Gray were patrolling on Paulding Forest WMA when they encountered an individual on the WMA. The subject had an outstanding warrant and was arrested.
HARALSON COUNTY On May 13th, Sgt. Eric Brown, Cpl. Chad Cox and RFC Daniel Gray assisted with the Haralson County Kids Fishing Rodeo. There was over 3,000 people in attendance for the event. Game Wardens assisted the kids with fishing and they ran the DNR shooting simulator, BB Gun Tent, and had archery for the kids.
BARTOW COUNTY On May 8th, RFC Mark Puig patrolled Pine Log WMA in the evening. RFC Puig encountered 2 adults and 1 juvenile on the area near Stamp Creek. The adults were observed smoking suspected marijuana. RFC Puig made contact and confirmed that the adults were in possession of marijuana. The 2 adults were placed under arrest for VGCSA possession of marijuana less than an ounce. The juvenile was released to parents.
Region II- Gainesville (Northeast)
HALL COUNTY On May 13th, Game Warden Chris Kernahan patrolled Lake Lanier for boating and fishing activity. Throughout the patrol, he documented violations that consisted of Operating a Vessel with Improper Life Jackets, Operating a Vessel without Registration Displayed, Operating a Vessel without Registration, & Operating a Vessel Greater than Idle Speed within 100 feet of a Dock.
BARROW COUNTY On May 14th, Game Warden Chris Kernahan patrolled Fort Yargo State Park for fishing and boating activity. Throughout the patrol, he documented violations that consisted of Operating a Vessel without Wearing Life Jackets, Allowing an Underage Child to Ride in a Moving Vessel without Wearing a Life Jacket, Criminal Trespass by Swimming in an Unauthorized Area of a State Park, Possession of Undersized Bass, & NonResident Fishing with a Resident License.

On May 14th, Game Wardens Mark Stephens, & Chris Kernahan responded to a complaint of illegal fishing in Barrow County. The Game Wardens apprehended two subjects who were found to be fishing without permission. The violations were documented.
JACKSON COUNTY On May 12th, Game Warden Eric Isom and his K9 partner, Colt, participated in Jefferson Academy Career Day event. The children's classes ranged from 3rd grade through 5th grade.
Region III- Thomson (East Central)
OGLETHORPE COUNTY On May 13th Sgt. Brian Carter and Cpl. Mark Patterson attended a Kids Fishing Event hosted by a local property owner. The Game Wardens presented a boating safety program for all attendees stressing the importance of boating safety in general, and the importance of proper life jacket use. The Game Wardens also assisted youth with fishing activities.
CLARKE COUNTY On May 7th RFC Phillip Nelson patrolled the Athens area for boating and fishing activity. Violations documented were fishing without license.
ELBERT COUNTY On May 10th CPL Julian Wilkins and RFC Phillip Nelson taught two archery hunter development classes at Elbert County High School.
Region IV- Macon (West Central)
No Activity to report.
Region V- Albany (Southwest)
No activity to report.
Region VI- Metter (Southeast)
LAURENS COUNTY On May 8th, Corporal Dan Stiles and Ranger First Class Rodney Horne responded to and investigated a hunting incident at the River Bend Wildlife Management Area. A turkey hunter that harvested a turkey was injured by shot pellets fired from another hunter when he was retrieving his game. The subject responsible for injuring the victim has not been located at this time. The victim will recover from his injuries.
DODGE COUNTY On May 13th, Corporal Dan Stiles patrolled the Dodge County Public Fishing Area. Eight anglers were checked for license compliance and creel limits. Two vessels were checked for registration and safety equipment. No violations were documented.
Region VII- Brunswick (Coastal)
GLYNN COUNTY On May 7, RFC David Brady was conducting a patrol on Clay Hole Swamp WMA when he encountered several subjects around the pond. After a thorough investigation it was determined that the subjects were all drinking alcohol and under the age of 21. The subjects were cited for Illegal consumption of alcohol on WMA and Entering a designated fee area without Georgia Outdoor Recreation Pass.

On May 10, Corporal Kate Hargrove instructed a boater education course for Glynn County Police Department. Ten officers were certified
