Weekly Report July 31 August 6, 2016
This report is a broad sampling of events that have taken place in the past week, but does not include all actions taken by the Law Enforcement Division.

Region VI- Metter (Southeast)
BULLOCH COUNTY On August 1st, RFC Jason Miller responded to a call from GSP to assist with a search for a fleeing suspect. The suspect was in a stolen vehicle and was being pursued by deputies and troopers. The subject wrecked into a wooded area and ran on foot. RFC Miller arrived and a perimeter was established. RFC Miller saw the suspect run across a hay field and hide in some bushes and hedges behind an abandoned building. RFC Miller approached the building and found the subject lying on the ground in the overgrown bushes. The suspect was placed under arrest by RFC Miller and turned over to the deputies. It was later determined that the suspect was also wanted in Evans County for five different burglaries.
EMANUEL COUNTY On August 6th, Ranger Randell Meeks was patrolling George L. Smith State Park for fishing and boating compliance. One violation of fishing without license was documented.
LAURENS COUNTY On August 6th, Corporal Dan Stiles, Ranger First Class Rodney Horne, and Sergeant James McLaughlin presented an Information and Education program at the Olivet Baptist Church Wild Game Supper. The officers also provided the Laser Shot shooting simulator. Thirty-four children participated in the event.
On August 6th, Corporal Dan Stiles and Ranger First Class Rodney Horne conducted an evening patrol at the Hugh M. Gillis Public Fishing Area. Three anglers were checked for license and creel compliance and one vessel was checked for registration and boating safety equipment. One violation for fishing on a Public Fishing Area without a Wildlife Management Area License and one violation for operating a vessel without registration were documented.
Region VII- Brunswick (Coastal)
GLYNN COUNTY On July 31st, RFC John Evans was patrolling the Clayhole Swamp WMA when he encountered a man and woman at the pond next to the campground. While walking by the couples vehicle Evans noticed a large bag of what appeared to be marijuana on the dash. RFC Evans questioned the two about the marijuana and a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded two more bags of marijuana and paraphernalia. The vehicle was towed and both subjects were arrested and transported to the Glynn County Detention Center. They were charged with Violation of the GA Controlled Substance Act, Possession of Marijuana.

On August 2nd, RFC David Brady and RFC John Evans conducted an outreach program cooperating with the Brunswick Police Department, Glynn County Sheriff's Office, Glynn County Police Department, the United States Coast Guard and others agencies and local businesses. The event was designed to educate the public about Law Enforcement and Public Safety fields and interaction within the community.
On August 6th, RFC David Brady responded to a reported boating incident that occurred at approximately 0430 that morning. After investigating the incident and determining that there were no injuries, it was found that a vessel was heading offshore for a fishing tournament and struck a marker in the river. The boat was able to return to the marina without incident.
BRANTLEY COUNTY On August 6th, RFC Colte Shaske received a complaint in reference to hunting dogs on someone's property. When Shaske arrived on scene he found the complainant out with a group of people at the gate entrance to the property. RFC Shaske interviewed the suspects and found that they had put their deer dogs out to train for hunting deer. The dogs were retrieved and the suspects were told not to enter the property again. Two suspects were cited for training deer dogs out of season.
BRYAN COUNTY On Tuesday August 2, 2016, RFC Toney and Cpl. Morgan attended the National Night out in Hinesville. Sgt. Scott participated in National Night Out in Pembroke. Both locations had wildlife displays and information available on hunting, fishing and boating laws. Kids from the area learned about wildlife and boating laws and what it takes to become a Conservation Ranger.
On Saturday, August 6, 2016 Cpl. Bryson and Cpl. Morgan conducted boating patrols in Bryan and Liberty Counties. While in Bryan County the Rangers saw a jon boat running on plane with a person riding the bow with his legs hanging off the bow. The operator was cited for allowing someone to ride on the bow with no retaining rail.
On Saturday August 6, 2016, Cpl. Bryson patrolled the area of Morgan's Bridge to check vessels that may have been out boating or fishing. Cpl. Bryson noticed someone drinking beer in the area. It is illegal to have any open container of alcohol in any of the recreation area there. The man was cited for possession of open container at a DNR boat ramp.
