The 60/40 matching grants enable cities, towns, and rural areas to undertake projects that aid in the preservation of historic properties.
Eligible survey and planning projects include: surveys, National Register nominations, design guidelines, brochures, web site development, heritage education materials, workshops/conferences, etc.
Eligible predevelopment projects include: activities such as historic structure reports, preservation plans, or architectural drawings and specifications.

A National Historic Landmark (NHL) is a historic building, site, structure, object, or district that represents an outstanding aspect of American history and culture. There are currently fewer than 2,500 properties designated National Historic Landmarks. See the Georgia list here. Benefits of NHL designation include access to federal grants and technical assistance.
The NHL program has scheduled monthly webinars (January - July 2012, so far) on specific topics related to the NHL process.
