National Register news
Oak Hill Cemetery, located along Jefferson Street approximately onehalf mile north of downtown Newnan in Coweta County, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on January 27, 2012. Main Street Newnan and the City of Newnan sponsored the nomination and prepared the nomination materials. Oak Hill Cemetery is a good example of a 19th-century cemetery that has remained in continuous use since opening in 1828, the year that the town of Newnan was established. Oak Hill was not originally a city cemetery, but privately owned burial grounds that were divided into several sections. Numerous examples of 19th- and 20th-century funerary monuments and ornamental fencing can be found throughout the cemetery. Decorative grave markers, obelisks, statuary, and ornamental fencing

2012 Centenial Farm Awards applications
The Georgia Centennial Farm Program was developed in 1992 to distinguish family farms that have contributed to preserving Georgia's agricultural history by maintaining working family farms for more than 100 years. The program has recognized 401 farms around the state. Each year, qualifying farms are recognized at the opening day of the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia. During the awards luncheon, farm owners receive a Georgia Centennial Farm certificate of honor signed by the governor. Applications for the 2012 Centennial Farm Awards are due on May 1.

Recent HPD staff activities February 2-3 - Staff visited Sapelo to support Weekend for Wildlife trips and discovered new archaeological site. February - Archaeology staff visited Long Swamp site in Cherokee County to conduct shovel testing to determine the site boundary. 11 Most Endangered Historic Places
The National Trust for Historic Preservation is accepting nominations for the 2012 list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. Deadline for submissions is February 17.
NCPTT Summer Internships
Summer internships at NCPTT provide students and recent graduates an opportunity to undertake laboratory or field research in archaeology, architecture, engineering, collections management, historic landscapes, and materials science. Projects vary from year to year but may include historic resource documentation, hands-on research, data collection, materials and product testing, or testing new technologies. Applications will be accepted through March 12.
