May is Preservation Month!

This year's Preservation Month theme is "Discovering Georgia's Hidden Gems," which is a great match for our 2012 "Downtown Georgia" photo contest. We've had a great response already - submissions are due by May 24.
In partnership with The Georgia Trust, HPD is cosponsoring our 3rd annual Preservation Month Lecture Series at Rhodes Hall in Atlanta every Thursday in May. Lectures and light refreshments are free and begin at 6pm. Our first lecture on May 3 had a great turn-out for architect Jack Pyburn's presentation about Technology, Modern Architecture and Historical Significance in the 20th Century. Join us next Thursday, May 10 for Rail - Peachtree Station with Purpose by Brian Sweny, Savannah College of Art and Design.

Call for Nominations: 2013 Places in Peril
The Georgia Trust's Places in Peril program seeks to identify and preserve historic sites threatened by demolition, neglect, lack of maintenance, inappropriate development or insensitive public policy. The list raises awareness about Georgia's significant historic, archaeological and cultural resources, including buildings, structures, districts, archaeological sites and cultural landscapes. Through this program, the Trust encourages owners and individuals, organizations and communities to employ preservation tools, partnerships and resources necessary to preserve and utilize selected historic properties in peril. Postmark deadline is Monday, June 4, 2012.
