Our new and improved website at georgiashpo.org was just launched in July 2011, so you may still be getting used to the new layout and content. Have you tried these features?:
For example - you can't find information about cemeteries right away? Here are three quick ways to find it from the home page:
1. Mouse-over the Historic Resources menu; click on Cemeteries when the drop-down boxes appear.
2. Type cemeteries into the Search this site box in the top right corner and click Go.
3. Click the arrow on the right side of the Select a quick link box located to the right of the large photo; click on cemeteries.

Recent HPD staff activities
September 20 - Staff visited the City of Tucker to assist a property owner who was interested in applying for historic preservation tax incentives.
September 26 - Archaeology staff monitored the city's removal of tree root balls from the Old Methodist Cemetery in Ringgold. The trees were knocked down by the tornado in April.
September 28-30 - Staff participated in a multiagency tourism resource team visit to Banks County. Agency partners included the Ga. Dept. of Economic Development, Ga. Dept. of Community Affairs, Ga. Council for the Arts, and the Ga. Dept of Agriculture. HPD's role was to offer historic preservation tools and programs which encourage heritage tourism and economic development.
September 29 - Director Crass welcomed historic preservation commissions from around the state to Rome for commission training. This training is the result of a new partnership between HPD, the Ga. Downtown Association, the Ga. Dept. of Community Affairs, and the Ga. Municipal Association.

Call for session proposals: AASLH 2012 annual meeting
Annual Meeting of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) is now accepting session and workshop proposals for its next annual meeting, October 36, 2012 in Salt Lake City. Guided by the theme; Crossroads: Exploring the Vibrant Connections Between People and Place, AASLH will focus on the personal, communal, and organizational journeys that lead to vibrancy, authenticity, health, and happiness, and how these journeys allow us to achieve meaningful and impactful social change. Proposals for sessions or workshops for the 2012 Annual Meeting must be submitted by November 17, 2011 on a Call for Proposals form. You may submit the form via email, fax, or mail. Available grants
National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT) Grants to advance the application of science and technology for historic preservation. Applications are due by October 17, 2011.
Land and Water Conservation Fund Grants: Applications are now being accepted for nearly $9 million in grants to help states and local communities acquire and preserve threatened Civil War battlefield land. Administered by the American Battlefield Protection Program.
