Experts will lead sessions on Preservation Tax Incentives, the Georgia Trust's Places in Peril program, Historic Theaters, and Sustainability & Green Buildings. The latest discoveries about 20th Century Equalization and Rosenwald Schools and mid-20th Century residences and their landscapes also will be shared. There will be a book signing by the authors of the new publication Crossroads of Conflict and an evening reception at Macon's beautiful Hay House. Join us in Macon as preservationists once again have an opportunity to come together and celebrate Georgia's historic places.

Available grants
Preservation Services Fund Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations and public agencies for preservation planning and education efforts. Grant awards range from $500 to $5,000. The Application deadline is June 1, 2011
America's Historical and Cultural Organizations grant competition funds humanities projects that are intended for broad public audiences at museums, libraries, historic sites and other historical and cultural organizations The next deadline is August 17, 2011.

Ringgold Gap Battlefield, Catoosa County, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on March 12, 2011. The battle site is significant because the Confederate victory preserved the Army of Tennessee and required Union commanders to halt their advances until the start of the Atlanta Campaign in the spring of 1864. Cleburne and his soldiers received an official letter of gratitude issued by the C.S.A. Congress for their actions. The victory also contributed to Cleburne's fame as the Confederacy's "Stonewall of the West." The site is also important in art and landscape architecture because the design and form of the 1898 New York monument and the 1937 Ringgold Gap

AUDC accepting nominations for the 2011 Awards Of Excellence
The City of Atlanta's Office of Planning and Urban Design Commission is pleased to announce the 34th annual Atlanta Urban Design Commission Awards of Excellence Competition for 2011. The AUDC annually honors those projects, programs, individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed toward the enhancement of the City of Atlanta's built environment, the preservation of our physical heritage, and the sympathetic balance between the old and the new. Nominations can be submitted for the following categories: Public Works of Art, Historic Preservation, Parks & Landscape Design, Adaptive Use, Urban Design, Contextual In-fill, New Construction, Individual/Organization, Interior Design of Public Spaces, and Sustainable Design. Complete nominations must be received in the Office of Planning, Suite 3350, City Hall, by Monday, April 11, 2011 by 1:00 P.M. Contact Denise Potts at 404-330-6201
Atlanta's Whittier Mill named a 2011 Best Old-House Neighborhood
This Old House magazine recently published their annual list of Best Old-House Neighborhoods. This year's Georgia selection is Whittier Mill Village in northwest Atlanta, which was listed in the National Register

of Historic Places on September 13, 2001. According to the editors of This Old House magazine, the selected neighborhoods were chosen for their "promising futures, strong communities, and homes that truly deserve a long-term commitment." The Best Old-House Neighborhoods appear in the April issue and online.
