HPD staff news
HPD is pleased to announce that we will be adding a Sustainability Specialist position to our Tax Incentives and Rehabilitation Guidance Program. This position is underwritten by the Solid Waste Trust Fund (SWTF), which itself is funded by a $1 fee for each new replacement tire sold in the state. SWTF money can only be used to assist private enterprises reduce their waste streams and become more energy efficient.
HPD's ability to assist private developers through the tax incentives programs that we administer will be greatly enhanced as we incorporate sustainable rehabilitation techniques into our technical assistance portfolio. This is a rapidly-growing field in historic preservation, as witnessed by the recent release by the National Park Service of The Illustrated Guidelines on Sustainability for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings.
