given to participants at this week's History & Heritage Tourism: Discovering Georgia's Community Landmarks in Warm Springs. The full-color, 63-page book provides guidance on developing, implementing, and evaluating a community's heritage tourism potential. A second publication, a historic preservation primer, will be forthcoming later this year.
HPD director Dr. Dave Crass said, "HPD is pleased to have been able to partner with GDEcD in this important publication, which will help Georgia's communities promote their historic resources to reach a variety of economic and cultural goals, including neighborhood revitalization, attracting new investment and jobs creation, and increase tourism."
"Georgia is ranked within the top ten states for heritage tourism visitation in the U.S.," said Bruce Green, director of Tourism Product Development. "The Heritage Tourism Handbook will be an invaluable resource for Georgia communities seeking to package and promote their heritage and cultural assets as part of their overall economic development strategy."
The two state agencies produced this publication to help communities find ways to develop heritage tourism programs and to promote and protect Georgia's historic and cultural assets and attractions. The handbook will available free of charge by contacting HPD at 404-6562840 or the Georgia Department of Economic Development at 404-9624087. A PDF version of the handbook will soon be available online at www.gashpo.org and www.georgia.org. For more information, please contact Carole Moore, at 404-463-8434 or carole.moore@dnr.state.ga. us.
