buildings associated with the Columbus Plant of the Bibb Manufacturing Company, the remaining dam and powerhouse, the mill workers' houses constructed by Bibb Mill, and commercial and community landmark buildings. The Bibb Manufacturing Company built and began operating in 1900 a large textile mill on a high bluff, locally called "Lover's Leap," overlooking the Chattahoochee River. The spinning mill was powered by a waterwheel-driven rope drive. By 1920 the main mill building had been expanded to five stories tall and 90 bays long (no longer standing). Other historic buildings and structures associated with the mill are the remaining warehouses, water tower, dam, and hydroelectric plant, which were vital components to the mill's operation. The Bibb City Historic District is important in commerce and industry for its role as one of the largest textile operations in the South.
