retains its original materials and floor plan, and represents Tybee's boarding house district located between 16th and 18th streets. The district featured an assortment of boarding houses and rental cottages that were available for rent by the week, month, or season. The building is one of the few historic boarding houses left on Tybee Island. In the first decades of the 20th century, Tybee Island, also known as Savannah Beach, developed as a coastal resort for residents of nearby Savannah. The opening of the Tybee Road in 1923, a causeway that linked the island with Savannah, fueled the demand for small inns, rooming houses, and apartments for middle-class vacationers. Eleventh District A & M School/ South Georgia College Historic District
The Eleventh District A & M School/ South Georgia College Historic District, located on West College Park Drive in Douglas (Coffee County), was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on May 21, 2010. Historically named the Eleventh District A & M School, the campus is significant for its role in Georgia higher education as one of the original 11 (later 12) state-supported regional high schools created by the Georgia General Assembly through the Perry Act of 1906. The act provided for each congressional district to have an A & M school for rural secondary education. The initial curriculum focused on practical demonstrative coursework (primarily farming for boys and home economics for girls). Localities had to furnish at least 200 acres of land

along with buildings, livestock, and farm implements. The Eleventh District A & M School evolved into a junior college, among the first state-supported junior colleges in Georgia. It was known as South Georgia State Junior College (1927-1929), South Georgia State College (1929-1936), and finally South Georgia College (1936-present).

NPS director names new Associate Director for Cultural Resources
National Park Service (NPS) Director Jonathan Jarvis has named Stephanie Smith Toothman, Ph. D., as the Service's new Associate Director for Cultural Resources. Toothman will be responsible for history, historic preservation, and cultural programs in 392 national parks and a host of community programs that make-up the NPS role in a national preservation partnership among federal, Tribal, state and local governments and nonprofits. She will begin her job in mid July.

community-based efforts to preserve and share local history including grants programs that award millions of dollars annually, a tax credit program that incentives $5 billion a year in private investment, and programs that document and recognize history like National Historic Landmarks, National Register of Historic Places, and the Historic American Buildings Survey, Historic American Engineering Record, Historic American Landscapes Survey, and the Cultural Resources GIS survey. Toothman will also manage the national Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and National Heritage Areas program, and an extensive national system of standards, guidance, and technical assistance that is the foundation of historic preservation work across the country.

Available grants
USDA Rural Development's Rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG) program The RBOG program promotes sustainable economic development in rural communities with exceptional needs through provision of training and technical assistance for business development, entrepreneurs, and economic development officials and to assist with economic development planning. To be eligible for funding, an applicant must be a public body, non-profit corporation, Indian Tribe or cooperative with members that are primarily rural residents. Applicants must also have significant expertise in the activities proposed and the financial strength to ensure the objectives of the proposed grant can be accomplished. Applications are due June 28. The Foundation will also offer the Richard L. Blinder Award, a biennial grant of up to $15,000 for the best proposal exploring the preservation of an existing structure, complex of buildings or genre of building type through addition, renovation or other means. The subject of the submission may be a real project or a polemical exercise; in either case originality is highly valued.
