Word formats on HPD's website. This grant program currently is funded from preservation license plate sales revenue. Thus far, over 4,000 plates have been purchased throughout Georgia. It appears likely that approximately $45,000-$50,000 should be available for the 2011 cycle. Therefore, it is estimated that only two to four of the topscoring projects will be funded. The postmark deadline for SFY2011 applications is Tuesday, July 13. Georgia Rosenwald School among Lowe's & NTHP grant recipients
The Barney Colored Elementary School was built in 1931.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation and Lowe's announced that an additional eight Rosenwald Schools will be restored through their joint initiative which has now provided grants to help preserve more than 40 of these endangered historic schools. Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation awarded each of the eight schools a $40,000 grant through the National Trust. Morven Rosenwald Alumni Association, Inc. recieved a grant for the Barney Colored Elementary School in Morven (Brooks County). Built in 1931, the building is currently vacant and unsuitable for use. to stabilize the building, replace and repair exterior siding, replace electrical systems, repair and replace doors and windows, and paint the interior and exterior. Once complete, the building will serve as a multipurpose community facility for the citizens of Barney and surrounding areas. It will offer technology classes, library resources, mentoring programs and more. The Morven Rosenwald Alumni Association, Inc. will manage the project. USDA Rural Development's Rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG) program The RBOG program promotes sustainable economic development in rural communities with exceptional needs through provision of training and technical assistance for business development, entrepreneurs, and economic development officials and to assist with economic development planning. To be eligible for funding, an applicant must be a public body, non-profit corporation, Indian Tribe or cooperative with members that are primarily rural residents. SFY 2011 Georgia Heritage Grants The Georgia Heritage Grant Program, administered through the Historic Preservation Division (HPD), has provided seed money for the preservation of historic properties and archaeological sites throughout the state. The Program offers matching funds on a statewide competitive basis to local governments and nonprofit organizations for the preservation of Georgia Register-eligible historic properties. Historic Chattahoochee Commission Matching Grant Program Historic Chattahoochee Commission (HCC) has announced the continuation of its Matching Grant Program. Grants are provided on a 50/50 reimbursable basis with the goal of developing the Chattahoochee Trace's full potential for historic preservation and tourism. All projects funded under this program must be innovative in scope and application. Projects that are a continuation of on-going programs will not be eligible for consideration. HCC has set aside $10,000 during FY 2010-11 to assist in the funding and development of various projects in the Chattahoochee Trace area of Alabama and Georgia. Previous grants have been awarded in the $500-$3,500 range. The application deadline is August 6, 2010. All projects must begin after October 1, 2010 and be completed by August 5, 2011. Interpreting America's Historic Places Planning and Implementation Grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities These grants support public humanities projects that exploit the evocative power of historic places to explore stories, ideas, and beliefs that deepen our understanding of our lives and our world. The projects should interpret a place that played a significant role in American history; enrich the visitor experience at one or more historic places by interpreting these places in light of broader themes in American history; make use of the specific features of one or more historic places --the site, its location, buildings, or other natural or built features--as integral parts of the proposed interpretation; be based on sound humanities scholarship; involve humanities scholars in all phases of development and implementation; approach the subject thematically, analytically, and interpretively through an appropriate variety of perspectives; interest broad audiences; and employ appealing and accessible program formats that will actively engage the public in learning. Fitch Mid-Career research grants The James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation will award Fitch MidCareer research grants of up to $15,000 to mid-career professionals who have an academic background, professional experience, and an

established identity in historic preservation or related fields including, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, environmental planning, architectural history, and the decorative arts. The Foundation will also offer the Richard L. Blinder Award, a biennial grant of up to $15,000 for the best proposal exploring the preservation of an existing structure, complex of buildings or genre of building type through addition, renovation or other means. The subject of the submission may be a real project or a polemical exercise; in either case originality is highly valued. Preservation Services Fund Grants Administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, these grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations and public agencies for preservation planning and education efforts.
