HPD staff news
HPD is pleased to announce that Beth Gibson has returned to the Division in a part-time capacity. Some of you may have worked with her in the mid 1990s when she served as Rehabilitation Architect, working primarily with the Tax Incentives program and the Women's History Initiative. Beth is a registered architect and received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Georgia Tech. She will be rejoining our Tax Team - reviewing preservation tax applications to insure conformance with the Standards for Rehabilitation. We are delighted to have Beth on board. She can be reached at 404-651-5568 or at beth.gibson@dnr.state.ga.us.

of Lane Greene on December 20. Lane, a preservation architect, served on Georgia's National Register Review Board from 1983-1986. He was responsible for the successful rehabilitation and restoration of buildings all across the state. Deputy SHPO Richard Cloues characterized Lane as a "practical visionary" someone who could look at a derelict historic structure and "see" it in its restored state but who also had the practical skills to make that restoration happen. For those of us who often deal with people whose first thought is to "tear it down," Lane's joking but truthful statement that he never met a building he couldn't rehabilitate was very reassuring. Georgia's preservation community has experienced a loss, and Lane will be very much missed. Visit the Morgan County Citizen's Web site at www.morgancountycitizen.com for an obituary and special profile article in the January 7 edition.
