Deputy State Archaeologist position available
HPD is seeking applications for a Deputy State Archaeologist/ Archaeology Section Chief position. The position provides day-to-day management and policy oversight to a section of four full-time and one part-time professional archaeologists who carry out the State Historic Preservation Office's responsibilities in the areas of archaeological resource planning, identification, registration, education, protection, and preservation under both state and federal statutes. Douglasville is Georgia's newest Preserve America Community
The 1958 former Douglas County Courthouse, located in Douglasville, is a National Register-listed International Style building.
Douglasville was officially named a Preserve America Community on February 2. The program recognizes communities that protect and celebrate their heritage, use their historic assets for economic development and community revitalization, and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. Designation benefits include eligibility for Preserve America grants. For more information visit www. preserveamerica.gov/communities.html.

Athens-Area Watson-Brown Foundation Junior Board grants A total of $33,000 is available for historic preservation projects located in the Athens area. Eligible counties include Banks, Hall, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart, Madison, Jackson, Barrow, Walton, Oconee, Clarke, Oglethorpe, and Greene.
