HPD position announcement
One of our Archaeology Section's primary functions is to furnish archaeological services to our sister land-managing divisions within the Department of Natural Resources: Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) and Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Division (PRHSD). Most often this takes the form of small scale reconaissance-level surveys, but also includes evaluation and recommendations for larger-scale GEPA/106 projects that are outside the capability of our office to handle. Over the last few years the pace of projects in the WRD Forest Management Unit has increased substantially pursuant to habitat restoration and enhancement.
Details about a new Staff Archaeologist position opening and how to apply are available on our website. The application deadline is August 20, 2010.

Founded by the Georgia legislature in 1823 to be the county seat of DeKalb County, Decatur took its name from Commodore Stephen Decatur, a U.S. naval hero of the early 1800s. In the years since, Decatur has grown into a busy suburb of neighboring Atlanta, produced Agnes Scott College, and attracted both the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital and Columbia Theological Seminary. Veteran newspaper reporter and editor, Joe Earle, a longtime Decatur resident, has assembled images from the DeKalb History Center, the archives of churches, and other Decatur institutions to show how the city has changed through the years. These images record Decatur's growth from a quiet country village to a busy community at the center of a populous, suburban county. Books may be purchased at the DeKalb History Center, located at 101 E Court Square, Decatur GA 30030. Or use your credit card to order by phone: call 404-373-1088 ext 22 to order.
